Here in Corsicana, we know a thing or two about cows. But did you know they might one day fuel your car?

Cow manure is a powerful source of energy. You may have heard environmentalists decrying cow poop as a dangerous source of methane-- and that's true. Methane gas released by decomposing waste is estimated to be 25% more powerful at trapping heat than the more popularly denounced carbon dioxide.

However, that gas can be harnessed and used.

Take decomposing cow turds, and collect the gas they emit as they break down. Now take that gas and refine it further. See, methane is made of four hydrogen atoms bonded to a single carbon. So, by adding a little hot steam, you can strip away those hydrogen atoms to use for fuel.

Pretty clever, right? What will science think up next?

The hydrogen fueled Toyota Mirai is going on sale starting this year, in California. Soon, though, we might see this bovine-based energy come to Corsicana.

Until then, we welcome you down to Stewart Toyota, to test drive a fuel efficient vehicle like the Toyota Prius, or anything else that catches your fancy from our inventory.
